JOIN THE
BILLION EGG CHALLENGE

The Billion Egg Challenge is a statewide effort to protect 1 billion lobster eggs through the practice of V-notching egg-bearing female lobsters.

Maine lobstermen will compete on regional teams, tracking the V-notches they collect throughout the season and showcasing one of the fishery's most important conservation traditions.

Every notch helps protect approximately 10,000 eggs, proving that small actions can make a big impact for the future of Maine's lobster resource.

The public can get involved too! Support a team and get the chance to win Free Lobster for a Year!

Why V-Notch?

Maine’s long-standing v-notching ethic is part of the fishery’s strong stewardship practice. Maine lobstermen take responsibility for the long-term health of the resource. By continuing this legacy and encouraging every harvester to do their part, we strengthen the future of the fishery and uphold the proud reputation of Maine lobstermen as stewards of the fishery.
